St Louis Blues to Pay Your Mortgage

The St Louis Blues have followed in the foot steps of other great marketers like Jackie Moon to come up with their most recent promotion.

At every remaining Saturday home game this season, one lucky fan will have their mortgage or rent paid for four months! A fan will be randomly selected during the game, and all you have to do is be at Scottrade Center when your seat is called. Hold on to your ticket stub and watch for an announcement that you've won.

Let's hope this promotion works and more people attend games so that we can see what the Blues marketing people will think of next.

Rangers Submit Receipt for Death

The New York Rangers have taken the business aspect of sport to a new low, shortly after their young prospect Alexei Cherepanov dies they petition the league for a replacement pick? saying "with all due respect to Alexei's family and his memory, he is technically eligible to be drafted again next year," the New York Post has reported.

Wait with no respect if he technically gets drafted next year then you'll get the replacement pick

The Rangers have got their lawyer to contact the league's lawyer to try to get a ruling, the whole premise is quite ridiculous. The Rangers are trying to make a claim under article 8.3 (b) which entitles a team for compensation for an unsigned draft pick who again becomes eligible for the draft or becomes a free agent.

In this case Alexei was stricken by tragedy before he could be signed, so the argument that he could still be drafted is like saying well technically (insert any person deceased this year) could still vote.

The league should strongly deter this inquest as it is beyond insensitive and borders on disgusting the Canucks and their young player Luc Bourdon were stricken by a similar situation and instead held a moving ceremony for the player and installed a remberance wall in their stadium.

Shutting up Alex Semin

When asked wether or not he thought he belonged among the NHL's elite, (Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin) Alex Semin ripped Sidney Crosby saying:

What's so special about Crosby? I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago ... Kane is a much more interesting player. The way he moves, his deking abilities, his thinking on the ice and his anticipation of the play is so superb.
I think that if you take any player, even if he is "dead wood," and start promoting him, you'll get a star.

Especially if he scores 100 points. No one is going to care about anyone else. No one is going to care whether he possesses great skill. Let's say you put someone in front of the net and let him deflect pucks in, and he scored 50 goals; everyone will say "Wow!" and then hand him a $10 million per year

Ok Alex let's compare stats

First you are on pace for a career year, the only thing that prompted this question was "if you were able to maintain this pace?" Like if the Ottawa Senators Filip Kuba was going to maintain his assist average of 1.1 a game he would finish with approx 90 assists, pretty big IF.

Now let's compare stats

Alex Semin

201 Games, 82 Goals, 71 Assists, 153 Points, Minus 20 (ouch) Per Game Point Avg .76

pretty respectable all in all almost a point a game player... but -20

Sidney Crosby

224 Games, 102 Goals, 205 Assists, 307 points, Plus 28, Per Game Point Avg. 1.37

To match his points Alex you need a goal a game, and two assits for the next 20 games straight.
Crosby's point per game avg. is nearly double yours, and is higher than your teamate Ovechkin's plus he is three years younger than AO, and Crosby' has a plus/minus swing with you of plus 48.

Mats Sundin to Ikea?

The one decision Mats was able to make this off season was to take his new bride Josephine Johansson out to do some shopping, swedish style. The problem a rose when they reached Ikea, Mats just couldn't decide, there were alot of great choices, I mean even if he could decide on a bed? Where would he put it? The salesrep was sure it was down to two choices:

The first is a bed called the Hemnes which would be a perfect fit for the East Coast, classic style and cozy, that gives you that real close to home feeling
While The second one, Floro has a definite West Coast feel, looks like it could be made out of Bamboo, is lower to the ground perfect for cool, moderate climates. But just when we thought it was down to two a friend of his arrived one J.P. Barry who seemed to have some role in picking the furniture had this to say "I mean, if he has narrowed it down to two, that would be big news. At this stage, I would practically put out a press release if he's narrowed it down to two"

The salesrep apparently a fan of Mats said "If you can't make a decision? How did you become a captain of an NHL team?" Mats replied easy,"It wasn't my decison"

Fellow Swede, Peter Forsberg , had this two say "Personally I like to wait until two thirds of the shopping season is over then there are a lot less options open and then do my picking"

He added "My ankle just can't stand the long grind of a whole season anymore, so Mats relax just get in before the Sale when what you do really starts to matter"

Mats respectfully disagreed with Peter "my opinion has always been that you want to be there from the start of the season to be part of the group."

In the end Mats was not able to decide, as you can see in the top picture the furniture decision has got Mats pretty perplexed, upon leaving the store he just kept looking over and over at the catalouge at the various choices, saying "maybe I won't make a decision until later in the season" confusing everyone considering his part of the group comments.

Mats left us with this "I just hope people can respect that it's my right to make a decision, and I think I've earned that right.

Were not arguing but when the summer catalogue was sent to your house 5 months ago and we knew you were looking hard through it all your options we just thought well you might make a decison before the Fall.

Sean Avery Wouldn't Fight your Sister

Happened to see this Coach's Corner watching the Senators vs Leafs last night, Don Cherry exposes Sean Avery, supposed tough guy and tough talker for not backing up his tough talk with action. Several clips show Avery, willing and trying to get fights with Brandon Dubinsky, while avoiding Orr.

Just an absolute Joke... Avery is quick to criticize, but slow to back up his words

On another note several NHLers have told me, that Sean makes it priority to know every ones personal business and take trash talk to a whole new level, bringing up deaths in the family, a family members handicap, and divorce among other things.

You may act tough Sean but in the end it's just an act, you are a slightly better than average hockey player and a master marketer; that's it!

Manny Legacy injured by Sarah Palin?

Manny Legace trips over the ceremonial carpet, the St Louis Blues put out so that Republican Vice president candidate could drop the opening puck. The self described hockey mom managed to find her footing easily on the rug but the NHL goalie struggled, so far no word on how long Manny might be shelved for; the official injury report has Manny as day to day with a bruised ego.

One theory that has no merit, is that Manny lost his footing while trying to contrive a Sarah Palin "does the carpet match the blinds style joke" before tripping over the rug he was pondering...
